The Cambridge Diet is a 6 phase plan that has been both lauded as being extremely effective for the grossly weight, and also condemned for being a dangerous fad diet, as many very low calorie diets are considered unless they are undergone with strict medical supervision. While many people have heard the controversy that surrounds the Cambridge Diet and the possible side effects that can result from the program (and there is still a lot of heated argument over Cambridge Diet side effects), they don’t know about the other phases. While this article is going to talk about these phases and the Cambridge Diet plan, it’s important to note that this eating plan should not be done without proper medical supervision.
Phase One: This is the phase everyone knows about. Calorie levels are cut to 450-650 a day, and all calories have to come from the Cambridge Diet supplements, which claim they contain extra vitamins and roughage needed to be able to sustain on that few calories in a more healthy way than the equivilent foods would.
Phase Two: Add roughly 200 calories a day from a cup of skim milk and possibly a light lettuce salad.
Phase Three: Up to 1,000 calories that includes the Cambridge Diet food, skim milk, a very light breakfast, and salads for lunch and dinner (hold the dressing and the other extras)
Phase Four: 1200 calories which includes the CD food and supplements, and all 3 meals, obviously light to keep the total below 1200 calories for the day.
Phase Five: 1500 calories, add a light snack in with the meals and CD supplements
Phase Six: Maintenance. Over 1,500 calories, but making smart choices to not regain the weight.
Phase 1 has to be done for a minimum of one week, and very few ever go beyond 3 or 4 (and never ever a long time like 10 or 12 weeks). Every phase after that has to be held to for a minimum of 2 weeks until maintenance which is obviously ongoing. Just remember that if you are even considering the Cambridge Diet UK plan that you need to get medical supervision and the proper support program in place to make sure you can do this safely.
