Seven Tips To Losing Weight During The Holidays

The holiday season seems to be synonymous to weight gain. This doesn’t have to be the case for you. Stay on your healthy regimen and stay on your weight loss path with these simple tips to help you continue to lose weight during the holidays.

1. Set some goals. If you want to stick to a healthy plan you have to know what you want that plan to be ahead of time. When to neighbors arrive bearing gifts of freshly baked cookies you want to know how you’re going to handle the situation. If not, you might end up eating the whole plate of cookies yourself. Choose where your boundaries are going to be. Whether that means only eating desserts on the weekend, only one serving of a treat once a week, or no sugar at all. Have a plan.

2. Plan ahead. Know how to handle your holiday parties. Eat beforehand. Don’t go to a holiday party with an empty stomach. You will more than likely overeat, and make poor food choices. If you must eat at the party serve yourself vegetables and fruits, then lean meats, and then small portions of the carbohydrates and creamy questionable dishes, if any. These probably aren’t fat burning foods, and you are better off staying away.

3. Be a healthy contributor. Be the guest or host that brings a fruit tray, veggie tray, or healthy dish to the party. People will thank you. Not every holiday soiree has to be dripping with butter.

4. Stay active. Don’t skip your gym time. You need to burn those calories now more than ever. Take your family and friends on active outings. Go snowshoeing, skiing, or ice skating. The more calories you burn during the holiday season, the better.

5. Keep your counter clear. Don’t let the holiday goodies you receive pile up on your counter. You will be more likely to walk by and graze on a bite here, and a bite there. Those calories add up. Freeze them, re-gift them, throw them away, do whatever you have to do to get them out of your sight.

6. Ask for healthy gifts. Ask for a new MP3 player for Christmas, some new running shoes, a heart rate monitor, or GPS watch. These items will get you excited to be active and get back into the healthy routine after the holidays have come and gone.

7. Be merry. Laugh a lot. Laughing burns calories and will keep that happy disposition. This is just as important to overall health as anything else.
